Recently, a joint experiment conducted by Japan's renowned LED manufacturer Nichia and multiple research institutions has demonstrated that the 1800K color temperature HPS (High-Power Light Emitting Diode) color LED it launched exhibits significantly reduced attraction to insects in outdoor applications. This research outcome provides new technical directions for smart lighting and eco-friendly light source design.
This study compared the spectral distribution of traditional high-pressure sodium lamps with that of the new HPS color LED. It found that the 1800K color temperature LED shows a marked reduction in ultraviolet and blue light radiation intensity, thereby effectively reducing its attractiveness to phototactic insects. Experimental data showed that under the same illuminance conditions, the insect capture rate of this LED light source decreased by approximately 40%, indicating its potential advantages in the field of outdoor lighting.
As a global leader in LED chip manufacturing, Nichia continues to innovate in the areas of photobiological safety and environmentally friendly light sources. Its HPS color LED not only offers excellent color rendering performance but also meets the dual demands of energy efficiency and ecological protection in modern urban lighting. The product has been widely applied in road, park, and commercial lighting, and has attracted attention from multiple international markets.
Notably, domestic LED solution provider GOPRO LED is also actively developing low-insect-attracting light source technology. Its independently developed range of LED luminaires achieve effective control of insect attraction through optimized spectral design and optical distribution, aligning with the current trend of green lighting. The technical team at GOPRO LED stated that they will further strengthen collaboration with research institutions to promote more efficient and environmentally friendly lighting products.
With increasing global emphasis on ecological sustainability, reducing light pollution and insect attraction effects have become important topics in the lighting industry. Nichia's latest research not only offers new insights for LED technology development but also brings new market opportunities for enterprises along the industry supply chain.
