Recently, NTT-AT and EVG jointly announced the successful validation of high-refractive-index resin's application in augmented reality (AR) optical devices through the SmartNIL® process, marking a new stage in AR display technology. This achievement provides essential technical support for the development of next-generation lightweight and high-performance AR devices.
SmartNIL® is a nanoimprint lithography technology capable of achieving high-precision, low-cost microstructure manufacturing. In this collaboration, both parties applied high-refractive-index resin materials to AR optical modules using this technology, effectively enhancing optical path control while reducing device thickness and weight, making further miniaturization of wearable devices possible. Experimental data shows that optical components using this technology demonstrate significant advantages in light transmittance, image clarity, and viewing angle.
With the widespread application of AR technology in consumer electronics, industrial inspection, and medical assistance, the requirements for optical components are constantly increasing. Traditional glass substrates face limitations in terms of processing complexity, cost, and weight, whereas high-refractive-index resin materials offer excellent moldability and optical performance, making them a popular alternative. The collaboration between NTT-AT and EVG not only verified the compatibility of materials and processes but also provided the industry with a new technological pathway.
