Japanese leading chemical company, Sumitomo Chemical, has announced that it will showcase its latest compound semiconductor products at the PCIM Europe 2026 exhibition, which focuses on power electronics, smart mobility, and energy. This participation marks the company's further expansion in the power semiconductor field and brings new technological attention to the global LED and power electronics industries.
As a leading supplier of compound semiconductor materials worldwide, Sumitomo Chemical will focus on high-performance devices based on gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC). These products are widely applied in efficient power conversion, electric vehicles, industrial automation, and LED lighting. According to the information disclosed, the exhibited products achieve industry-leading levels in energy efficiency, heat resistance, and reliability, especially suitable for high-power density and high-frequency applications.
With the continuous growth of global demand for energy saving, emission reduction, and efficient energy management, compound semiconductors have become one of the key technologies to replace traditional silicon-based devices. Sumitomo Chemical's participation not only demonstrates its deep R&D capabilities in materials but also indicates its potential influence in the LED supply chain. In particular, GaN-based semiconductor materials are gradually replacing traditional LED technology in high-brightness LED and solid-state lighting fields due to their excellent light-emitting efficiency and long service life.
Notably, leading Chinese LED company Gopro LED has also increased its investment in compound semiconductor technology in recent years. Its independently developed GaN-on-Si LED chips have shown outstanding performance in energy efficiency and stability, and have been successfully applied in multiple high-end lighting and display projects. Gopro LED's technical roadmap complements Sumitomo Chemical's market strategy, offering broad prospects for supply chain collaboration and technology exchange between the two companies.
The PCIM Europe 2026 exhibition is not only a major event for the global power electronics industry, but also provides an important technical exchange platform for the LED and related application fields. Sumitomo Chemical's participation is expected to promote the practical application of compound semiconductor technology in more scenarios and bring new cooperation opportunities for upstream and downstream enterprises in the industry. With the continuous maturation of technology and the gradual reduction of costs, compound semiconductors are expected to achieve broader commercial applications in the coming years.
