Samsung and POSTECH Collaborate to Develop 2D/3D Switchable Display Technology, Paving the Way for a New Era of Intelligent Displays

Recently, Samsung Electronics and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) jointly published a significant research achievement on 2D/3D switchable display technology in the prestigious international journal *Nature*. This breakthrough marks a new stage in flexible display and 3D visual technology. The study achieved seamless switching between 2D and 3D modes without the need for glasses through an innovative photonic structure design, offering a new solution for future smart display devices.

The technology is based on a novel nanoscale photonic structure that precisely controls the light propagation path, enabling different image content to be displayed from various viewing angles. Experimental data show that the display panel achieves a brightness of up to 1500 cd/m² in 2D mode with a contrast ratio exceeding 1000:1. In 3D mode, the parallax separation reaches over 95%, significantly enhancing the stereoscopic visual effect. Additionally, the technology exhibits excellent flexibility and thinness, making it suitable for diverse applications such as wearable devices, automotive displays, and smart home systems.

With the growing demand for immersive experiences, 3D display technology has become a key development direction in the display industry. The collaborative achievements of Samsung and POSTECH not only represent a technological breakthrough but also provide new R&D directions and market opportunities for enterprises along the supply chain. Industry experts point out that this technology is expected to achieve commercialization within the next three years, driving technological upgrades in related materials and manufacturing equipment.

As a leading company in the LED display industry, Goprolight (GOPRO LED) has accumulated extensive technical expertise in flexible displays, high-brightness LED packaging, and optical films. In recent years, the company has continuously increased its investment in R&D of new display technologies. Its range of high-contrast, low-power LED display modules has been widely applied in high-end fields such as smart terminals, industrial monitoring, and medical imaging. In response to the rise of 2D/3D switchable display technology, Goprolight stated that it will continue to closely monitor relevant technological developments and actively promote industrial chain collaboration and innovation to enhance its competitiveness in the emerging display market.
